Tabby Ragdoll Kitten fights Tabby Maine Coon Kitten

June 11th, 2010

Donut and Ender fight over their first experience with catnip (Donut was hogging it all). Both are about 4 months old. Donut (the large brownish one) is a tabby Ragdoll, and Ender (the smaller, grey one) is a Maine Coon

how cute! I know each cat has their own personality, but overall have you noticed any general temperament and coat maintenance differences between your liluns?

I love both breeds, and am having a hard time picking one. I heard the maine coons are a bit more active and intelligent, but ragdolls more lap friendly and require less grooming.

Oh, yes, there’s definitely a temperament and coat difference between the two. Donut (the ragdoll) has a softer coat, and it never tangles and hardly ever sheds. Ender (the Maine Coon) has more of a waxy (waterproof), stiff coat, that tangles easily and sheds like mad (but is still fun to pet!)

I would say that both cats are pretty smart, but Ender IS a lot more energetic than Donut. Donut much prefers to sitting in my lap to chasing toys around the house.

Donut also is a bit larger right now (about 11 pounds at six months), mostly because he’s heavier set, and less active. I prefer him, mostly because I prefer the lap cat type (technically Ender is my boyfriends)

Thanks so much for the info on your little kitties. I think we have decided on adding a pair of ragdoll siblings to our family, and its always great to get experiences from people. =)

Well, thank you for the comment, but he actually is. The original Breeder of Ragdolls (Ann Baker) actually had a variety of Ragdoll colors, and choose to accept the point with blue eyes as the Breed Standard. Certainly Donut is no Show quality Cat, but I can assure you he is pure bred Ragdoll. His coat is soft, and rabbit like, due to the lack of an undercoat. He goes limp when I pick him up. He has a laid back personality. But more importantly, his parents were pure, and I have papers, etc.

At worst, I would say he MIGHT be a Ragamuffin, if only because a Ragamuffin is a Ragdoll that was taken away from the official breeders and bred in secret (and the Breed Standard allows more of a variety of colors). However, there are ways to tell the two apart (since Ragamuffins have been outbred to other breeds of cat since their creation, unlike Ragdolls). Donut has all the qualities of a standard Ragdoll, besides his coat, as did his parents (in addition to being registered)

Don’t get me wrong, Donut is very cute, handsome cat. It’s just that I can’t understand how non-pointed kitten was born from pointed parents. (I like RagaMuffins BTW.)
What organisation is he registered in??

Actually, his father is Tuxedo (the breeder mostly bread points, but also did other types for pets). Heh, as the for the organization, I’d have to get back to you, since I’m at work and don’t have access to the info… Sorry for getting a little defensive ^_^;; See, I doubted the breeder myself at first (the one I got Donut from), and now I feel bad about it…

Your answer was very nice and polite :) Maybe the breeder belongs to small, local association. I’m curious, so don’t forget to tell me when You find out :) Anyways, I like this wild pattern on elegant body. Donut seems to have friendly attitude too. Your videos of Ender and Donut playing are quite entertaining.

I’m not sure if things are posting from home, youtube isn’t acting the same as it does from work (could be some of my firewall software).

He’s registered with TICA, and the breeder is indeed registered with them(COKLSRAGDOLLS, if you’re interested).

And on that note, maybe the TICA website is where I found out that Ragdolls really can be other colors, because their section on Ragdolls mentions they can be Tabby.

Our conversation made me search a little bit. I’ve also talked to breeders and it appears that Your cat is indeed Ragdoll.

Even though his coat is not officially approved by TICA , it doesn’t mean he can’t be registered or get pedigree. Cat’s with unappoved coat are so called variants. Their existance is caused by outcrosses to Raga Muffins – Ragdolls’ sister breed

What’s more, You cat show him in “New Traits” section on a TICA catshow.

Adorable! I, too, have a non-pointed ragdoll (all white) registered with TICA, and a red maine coon. They still play like that, and they are now over 2 years old. Loved your video!
